The Combining of Frills & Doodads with Nutty Style of Life!

Hi all!

I put a post up a little while ago telling you all about my new endeavour Frills and Doodads.

Well, to go with the New Year and to help culminate all of my interests in to one, I have decided to combine the two blogs and am therefore moving everything over to Frills & Doodads!

All of my old posts can be found over there so please feel free to look through them and comment as you would have on here. You can also find my on Bloglovin here.

Whichever way, I hope to see you all over there as there will now be no more new posts on Nutty Style of Life.

See you there!

2014 - A Resolution

As today is the first day of the new year, it goes hand in hand with the start of new resolutions and is seen as a good starting point for any new ventures/changes in your life.

I don't normally do resolutions so much because I am rubbish at sticking to them, however my resolution this year is to try and get to know myself better and accept myself for who I am. Oh too often in the past I have shied away from doing something, and even being in social situations, because I was worried about what people would think of me or whether I would look silly.

I have always been slightly envious of people who are completely comfortable with who they are, warts and all, and this year I would like to work towards becoming that.

To start this off, I thought I would do a quick "What makes me, me?" post to share with you all as well as to stand as almost a marker for the rest of the year.

So what does make me?

I am a bit of a geek and enjoy playing the odd computer game - as well as spending a lot of my time on my laptop. I enjoy spending time on my computer doing a number of things including chatting to friends, playing games, blogging, general browsing etc.. This does mean that I end up spending a lot of my time on the computer - which, I know, is probably not all that healthy - but I enjoy it and it is how I keep myself entertained.

I love animals, especially cats. So much so that the thing I miss most from moving away from Leicester is my two puss cats. Yes they made a mess, and left fur everywhere but they were my babies and made my life that bit better. I could totally be a crazy cat lady..

I am naturally quiet, even when happy. It is quite natural for me to sit and listen to someone rather than talk back and I will only generally say something if I feel it is relevant.

I have a ridiculous sweet tooth. In fact, it is a bit of joke in my family that I have two stomachs. One for savoury food and one that is twice the size for sweet. I love cakes, chocolate, biscuits and especially custard. Custard makes everything taste better.

I am a mixture of messy and tidy. I do not enjoy living in an untidy environment. However, at the same time I am a little bit lazy so whilst the room seems tidy, things are most probably pushed away into a drawer or hidden in a cupboard somewhere.

I am a perfectionist. Despite my slight untidiness, I am pretty much a perfectionist. I have a tendency to think things over again and again to make sure they are planned to perfection and dwell on anything that alters from plan. As I mentioned in my previous point, if I have a notepad or a diary, it will bug me if I feel that any part is messy or not neat which usually means I will throw it away or stop using it. It's a pain in the arse.

I have a terrible memory. In order to help myself remember things I like to make a lot of lists. Whether these are on my phone or in a notebook, this is the best way to help me remember to do something and you can pretty much guarantee that if I don't write it down, it won't get done.

And lastly, I love reminiscing. There have been many days where I have sat down with my computer and put a slideshow on of all my old photographs from 2006. I love looking back at old pictures from past times and remembering the stories that go with them. I also like looking back at old family photographs - though not necessarily the ones of me - and my husbands photographs of his old life too.

Those are all of the facts about me that I can think of at this moment in time, although I am sure there are many more!

Do you have any New Years resolutions? If so, feel free to leave them in the comments box below! I'd love to hear them.

See you soon and I hope you all have a wonderful new year!

A Roundup of 2013

It's come to that time when everyone looks back at the past year and remembers what they have achieved/gone through/not achieved. So, of course, I thought I would join in!

From top left to bottom right:

1. Celebrated my step daughter's birthday! I can't believe she is getting so grown up now!

2. Said goodbye to my friends and colleagues at work in Leicester. I have now started a new job in Staffordshire, which I am happy with and I have some lovely new colleagues.

3. Said goodbye to my beautiful cats, who I miss everyday (cat lady much?) and hope that they are happy in their new home. I was so sad to let them go, but unfortunately it was a necessary evil and probably the best thing for them.

4. Packed up and left Leicester, moving back in with my parents in Staffordshire. I am very happy to be back in the same area as my family and am taking full advantage of being able to see more of them.

5. Enjoyed my hen do at the Emma Bridgewater factory painting pretty pots and then a lovely meal at a really posh restaurant called Pecks. Seven courses throughout the evening - we were all extremely stuffed by the end of it!

6. Got married to my best friend and got a change of name! It was a beautiful day and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves (or if they didn't they didn't tell us!) and I couldn't have wished for anything better!

7. Spent a lovely weekend celebrating my friend's hen do at Centreparcs. I don't get to see my friend very often so it was lovely to see her and also to meet some lovely new people!

8. Watched my lovely friend get married. It was another beautiful wedding and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

9. CHRISTMAS!! Need I say any more? Christmas has been rather busy and hectic, with us visiting family and celebrating numerous Christmases. Food, drink and treats galore.. I think I am definitely heavier than at the start of the month.

This year has been such an experience for myself and my husband. We have been challenged, removed from our comfort zones and upheaved from our home. And yet we have remained a team and got through it all! (soppy I know!)

In 2014 I am looking forward to finding ourselves a new home and settling down once again - there will be no cats anymore and no more Leicester, but hopefully some new adventure awaits us!

Hope you all have a wonderful New Year!

See you soon!

A Birthday and Christmas One!

A small glimpse in to a wonderful birthday and Christmas "Number One" with the small one. I have had a lovely time with the family over the past few days and have been left feeling thoroughly Christmassy and excited.

How do you get in to the Christmas mood?

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas..

Today was one of my favourite days of the year - Christmas decoration putting up day. After finishing off our Christmas shopping this morning and managing to find a huge cuddly toy minion from Despicable Me 2 for my step daughter (I wish I could have one myself!) we set about putting up the decorations, including the two trees and a host of other little bits and bobs.

It was a little bit different this year in comparison to the putting up of last year's decorations. This year we are under my parents roof and that has meant that there are many more decorations to play with and so, putting them all up has been extra fun! I really must remember to start buying more Christmas items each year so that I can build my own little collection up to be as impressive as theirs!

I thought I would share just a few photographs of the decorations we put up today with you! You can only see one tree in the photographs - the second is taking a little bit longer than expected thanks to some broken Christmas lights and so will be finished tomorrow! But I'm sure I will sneak a picture of it in a blog post once it's done!

The garland on the fireplace.

Two of many Santa Claus' throughout the house!

My reusable advent calender (just fill it full of chocolates) and our dinky Christmas tree!

I just love the overall look and feel that a house has when it has been decorated for Christmas - it feels so much more cheerful and so so pretty! Just having the Christmas tree lights on in my room makes me that bit happier.

Have you put your Christmas decorations up yet? If so, what do they look like and is anything you like in particular? My favourite is the little snow man which you can see in the very first photograph - he lights up and changes colour and he is just so cute!

If you have any photos of the Christmas decorations in your house, please feel free to leave a link to them in the comments below - I'd love to see them!

See you soon!
